On May 15, the intermediate court of Zhanjiang, Guangdong opened a court session for the trial of Zhu Yuying’s involvement in offering and taking bribes. Zhu was the former vice president of the Maoming Municipal People’s Congress. He was accused of accepting the bribes amounting to 13 million yuan, 3 million HK dollars and 200 thousand U.S. dollars by “selling” the opportunities of official selection and promotion and project bidding when he was the Party Secretary of Xinyi City, Guangdong Province.
It is known that Zhu Yuying also “bought”official positions for himself. In 2008, Zhu Yuying invited Luo Yinguo, former Party Secretary of Maoming to the dinner, during which he offered Luo 200 thousand HK dollars for a senior position in Maoming government. With Luo’s help, Zhu was promited to the vice president of the Maoming Municipal People’s Congress. Zhu was found to give Luo Yinguo the cash of 800 thousand yuan during the Spring Festivals from 2004 to 2009.
Zhu began to work when he graduated from high school in 1930. First he was a teacher in a Dianba County, Maoming. Then he joined in the cultural publicity team of Maoming government. Later he was chosen into the Guangzhou Railway Administrative Bureau as the propaganda director. In 1983 he returned to Dianbai County and started from the magistrate of a town to the vice governor of Dianbai County. In 2003 he became the Party Secretary of Xinyi.
“I have no background and my current achievements are results of my efforts. I never turned to any leaders for help,” he once said. Obviously his actions did not match his words.
