Objective To observe the effects of chronic hypobaric hypoxia on the contents of zinc, copper and iron in rat lungs. Methods Sixty Wistar rats were randomly divided into 10 days hypoxia group, 20 days hypoxia group and control group. The two hypoxia rats into the human body low pressure cabin, rose to 7000m height, stay 1.5h, 1 times a day. The contents of zinc, copper and iron in rat lung tissue were determined by WFX-Ⅱ atomic absorption spectrophotometer. Results The contents of iron in the lungs of rats in chronic hypobaric hypoxia 10-day group were significantly increased (P <0.05), while those in chronic hypobaric hypoxic 20-day groups were significantly increased (P <0.05 ). Conclusion Chronic hypobaric hypoxia increased the contents of zinc, copper and iron in lung tissue. It is speculated that this change may be a compensatory response that is good for preventing respiratory infections.
