Introduction The Asia Disaster Prevention Center (ADPC) was established at the Asian Institute of Technology in January 1986 at the request of Asian and Pacific countries for providing international assistance to strengthen their disaster management system in the Thai capital, Bangkok. The Asia-Pacific region has suffered almost all types of disasters, natural or “artificial.” As population density and industrialization increase, the danger of disasters will also increase. Disasters are not always preventable, but their impact can be mitigated.
