It examines how countries can exert the power of reform to overcome sunk costs and customary business inertia and propose that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) serve as platforms for governments to play the role of environmental law in overcoming customary business. It proposed that environmental law should serve as a way of combining the Sustainable Development Goals with a comprehensive approach to the resilience and sustainability of the ecological, social and economic systems. Because peat emissions of methane are strong, uncontrolled greenhouse gases. The paper also examines the main examples of two peat-related disregard cases that have been submitted by States to the UNFCCC Conference of Contracting Parties. The issue of biodiversity in peat management was then explored. It is argued that environmental law should make a difference between relevant environmental laws and contribute to global action on peat.
