Based on the chemical composition of the 265 mm thick S500Q-Z35 steel, the cold cracking susceptibility and reheat cracking tendency were evaluated. The Z-shaped window-like laminar tear test and the T-joint simulation test were conducted on the steel plate. No cracks were found in the test. According to the American ASME standard welding procedure qualification, the maximum thickness that can be welded is 350 mm.
