Although Hobbes can not be regarded as a first-class philosopher, his “Leviathan” had a great influence on contemporary scholars, including Descartes, the ancestor of modern philosophy. Although this book is considered an epoch-making work of political theory, it is based on language. Hobbes thinks there is no language, everything will cease to exist. This paper summarizes Hobbes’ s thinking on the origin of language, analyzes his division of language use and misuse, discusses his thoughts on the dimension of language space and time, analyzes his discussion of nouns, and then reveals the ontology of language in the human world. At the same time, this article also attempts to provide a reference for the study of language philosophy.
