在巴拉望岛和苏拉威西岛之间作了六条地震折射剖面(双船作业),根据这些结果,画出了该区的构造断面图。沿着该断面线看出苏禄海盆西北部有典型的海脊的地质构造。据信它是巴拉望——卡拉棉岛脊已经沉下海底的部分。一个被厚层沉积物充填的基底凹陷,其表面形成一个深度为2000米的阶地。苏禄海盆较深的东南部和苏拉威西海盆具有大洋型地壳。断断续续的苏禄群岛脊有表现为一岛弧的地质构造,大部分地方其上沉积成一平坦的海底。苏禄脊和苏拉威西岛的西北侧附近都有一个横断面呈向斜状的线状海槽。
Six seismic refrac- tions (double-vessel operation) were made between Palawan and Sulawesi. Based on these results, a structural cross-section of the area was drawn. Along the section line, we see the geological structure of a typical ridge in the northwestern Sulu Basin. It is believed to be part of the Palawan-Kalimantan ridge that has sunk below the sea. A basal depression filled with thick sediments forms a terrace with a depth of 2000 meters. The deep southeastern Sulu basin and the Sulawesi basin have oceanic crust. The intermittent Sulu archipelago has a geological structure characterized by an island arc, and most of the place is deposited with a flat sea floor. Sulu Ridge and Sulawesi Island near the northwestern side of a cross-section was obliquely shaped linear trough.
