2006年秋天,北京华辰拍卖举办了首场中国影像艺术专场拍卖会,摄影家解海龙的《大眼睛》以30.8万元人民币成交。这场拍卖会被认为是中国影像艺术品拍卖市场正式启动的开端。随后,国内几家拍卖机构先后举办了多场影像艺术拍卖会。北京、上海、杭州等地涉及影像艺术经营的画廊一下子多了起来。2007年春季开始,北京诚轩、中国嘉德继华辰之后,也新增了影像专场,并在春拍中取得不俗的成绩;但是秋拍中,三家拍卖行的影像专场并没有出现持续上涨的火爆局面,无论是成交率还是成交额,较春拍都有所回落(见表一)。中国影像市场究竟是还处在调整期,还是已经达到有专家所称的“油画及书画拍卖用了几年甚至十几年才达到的‘理智’”?
In the fall of 2006, Beijing Huachen held the first auction of special video art in China. The “big eyes” of the photographer Xie Hailong sold for 308,000 yuan.
