中国版画艺术,自30年代鲁迅先生倡导的新兴木刻运动至今的五十年间,以木刻为主要的版画形式面向中国人的生活,逐步形成了中国近代传统版画,在国内外产生很大影响,创下了一代业绩。当历史进入八十年代,中国版画以改革开放为契机,以“三版”为先导,在人们社会审美意识提高的基础上,版画家观念的转换,新科技新材料的运用及版画家自身审美情趣的拓展和对版画表现语言积极探索,使中国版画事业发生了巨大的变化。版画风格形式的多样,表现语言的丰富,为中国版画进入现代版画时代,揭开了新的一页。 版画事业发展了,版画的形式风格丰富了,作为版画的基础教学如何顺应历史发展潮流,找出发展规律性的问题,已成为目前版画教育同仁研讨的主要课题。
