As an important element in expressing imperial power, the ruler’s killing of prey became a metaphor for his power and military power. Court hunt, as an artistic theme, was a touchstone in Indian art history and was fully expressed in court art from late 16th century to early 20th century. Documentary paintings of the Indian court hunting from the Mughal era to the British colonial rise to the Moghul boom (1526-57).
