Recently, Gome has taken the lead in cutting the price of Motorola’s CDMA handsets by half, setting off the first shot of price cuts in the CDMA handset market in Beijing. Gome wants to move the Motorola V8060 CDMA mobile phone from the price of more than 1,500 yuan to a new low of 780 yuan, and “free of 100 yuan for network access charges. Within two months, the phone charges 200 yuan to send 100 yuan to Gome.” Gome was able to halve the price of CDMA handsets because CDMA handsets did not control the market as large as GSM handsets. They switched layers of handsets and kept handset prices high. According to reports, Gome and Motorola recently signed an order for 20,000 phones of this type.
