Hand in hand Xinhua Winshare and McGraw-Hill Education Group published the English version of When the Earth Shook: The Wenchuan Earthquake and The Rebirth of our Land: Creating a more beautiful Sichuan large picture albums (April 2012)
As a result of the copyright released by the Sichuan People’s Publishing House affiliated to the Xinhua Winshare Publishing and Media Co. Ltd., the American McGraw-Hill Education Group premiered to the world the published and circulated English version of When the Earth Shook: The Wenchuan Earthquake and The Rebirth of our Land: Creating a more beautiful Sichuan large picture albums on April 16th, 2012 at the 42nd London International Book Fair after the opening ceremony. The Director of General Administration of Press and Publication of the People’s Republic of China Liu Binjie, the Deputy Governor of Sichuan Province Ms. Huang Yanrong, Mr. Philip Ruppel, President of McGraw-Hill Professional and others were present at the premiere.
When the Earth Shook: The Wenchuan Earthquake and The Rebirth of our Land: Creating a more beautiful Sichuan, compiled by the Post “5.12” Earthquake Recovery and Reconstruction Office, used a recognized scene format and emotional artistry, making people enter the moment the tragic disaster unfolded, and taking them back to the historic scene of the reconstruction of people’s homes. These two picture books show how Chinese ethnic groups took the bull by the horns, embody their excellent indomitable qualities, and present the magnificent picture of epic post-disaster reconstruction.
The Global Release Ceremony for the Chinese Version of The Complete Poems of Tomas Transtromer
On April 18th, 2012, the global release ceremony of The Complete Poems of Tomas Transtromer (Chinese version) was held at China’s booth in Earl's Court Exhibition Centre in London. Mrs. Transtromer and their daughter, Li Li, a famous poet and translator of Mr. Transtromer’s poems, Chinese writers living in the UK, local English poets and media attended the ceremony. Mrs. Transtromer delivered a speech on the publication of The Complete Poems of Tomas Transtromer, and Ms. Li Li read Mr. Transtromer’s poems in Chinese.
Tomas Transtromer was born in 1931 in Stockholm. His first collection of poems(Seventeen Poems), was published in 1954 and created a sensation in Swedish poetry circle. This year, Sichuan Literature & Art Publishing House, a publishing house belongs to Sichuan Xinhua Winshare Chainstore Co. Ltd, published the new Chinese version of The Complete Poems of Tomas Transtromer to not only offer Chinese readers the great works of this great poet, but also introduce and popularize the excellent Western literature via literary language.
