唐代小说中的人狐婚恋题材,是唐代士人在大唐文化氛围中以文学形式承载文化思想而创造出来的独特文化景观之一。从作者主观命意的层面观照,以狐的重情之美反衬人的薄情之丑,应是其丰厚的文化意蕴之一。从文本描写的客观效果考察,狐女恋爱、结婚、生子等人生历程与社会上的女人相同,这说明作品是将狐女作为“人”来塑造的,体现了士人平等视之的文化思想。从“通变”角度看唐人对狐的态度似可归结为:若是狐女与男人相爱结合,作者则赞美之;若是雄狐化男与女子结合,则贬斥之;若是狐女惑人而非出于爱情,则鞭挞之;狐为善者则爱之有加,为恶者则除之务尽。这反映了唐人对狐敬之若神、待之如人、视之为魅、仇之若敌等多元复杂的文化心态。
