In the face of the tremendous opportunities that China poses after its accession to the WTO, foreign investors have decided to make large-scale investments in China. Motorola recently announced that it plans to invest 5.6 billion U.S. dollars in China over the next five years. Ericsson, its rival followed closely, announced in the next five years, doubling its investment in China to 5.1 billion. In Shanghai alone, Intel added an additional 302 million U.S. dollars to expand its chip test and packaging plant in Pudong, bringing the total investment to 500 million U.S. dollars. Emerson Electric China added 650 million U.S. dollars. The ambitious Hitachi Ltd. of Japan decided that by 2005 its sales in China would have quadrupled over the previous year to 4.5 billion U.S. dollars
