In 1970, Pike and Robinson applied double-layer agar culture to culture human bone marrow cells. Under the action of colony stimulating factor (CSF), granulocytes and monocyte-macrophage colonies were formed. Cells producing such colony were called granule- Monocyte-derived progenitor cells (CFU-C).
