萨法维王朝是伊朗高加索战略承前启后的关键期,也是高加索地区博弈格局从古代的西亚二元对抗向近代'俄国—奥斯曼—伊朗'三角博弈过渡的时期。在伊朗历代王朝中,萨法维王朝与高加索地区的关系最为复杂密切,影响也最为深远。此时,高加索首次成为伊朗对外交往的重要舞台和中介地区。沙皇俄国逐渐加入与奥斯曼帝国和萨法维王朝在高加索的博弈,成为近代高加索的第三个域外大国并日渐发挥重要作用。萨法维王朝和奥斯曼帝国对高加索的争夺构成16世纪西亚国际关系的主要内容,并很大程度上深刻影响萨法维王朝的对外政策。萨法维王朝
