Surface plasmons (SPs) are coherent oscillations of conduction electrons on a metal surface excited by electromagnetic radiation at the metal-dielectric interface.[1,2] The unique properties of SPs are being increasingly explored for their potential in subwavelength optics or plasmonics. The application of plasmonic technology based on metallic nanostructures has attracted much attention.A prominent feature of plasmonic nanostructures is their use for compact plasmonic sensing systems. The advance in nanofabrication and nanomaterial synthesis for creating nanostructures has motivated rapid development for optical detection.[3-5] In recent years, plasmonic nanostructures based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) or localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) have been successfully employed in sensing applications.
