“伊丽莎白”一词体现着16世纪末贵族和乡绅的价值观以及英吉利民族的成就感,女王时代英国君主的权威达到了顶峰。之后成为英国国王的詹姆士六世在残酷的宫廷斗争中成长起来,不注重自己的宫廷形象,对臣民的热情屑一顾。而之后的查理一世更是只想把宫廷文化贵族化、精英化,最终为自己引来杀身之祸。
