在近代中西文化的互动交流中,基督新教传教士承担了重要角色。哈佛大学燕京图书馆藏瑞士巴色会传教士韶波所著《儒教衍义》即是一部反映清末民初中西文化交流的重要著作,具有很高的文献价值。该著站在中西比较的立场上,从儒教人性论出发,对儒教中人的德性、五伦关系、教育以及强国富民措施等都提出了较为深刻的批评和看法。虽然这些批评和看法有的地方不免偏激,但仍对儒学思想史有较高的参考价值,也反映了戊戌运动中传教士的思考和参与,是研究清末民初政治、思想变革的重要历史文献。
In the modern interaction between Chinese and Western cultures, Protestant missionaries assumed an important role. Harvard University Yanjing Library possession of the Swiss Pakistani Society missionary Shao Bo “Confucianism” is a reflection of the Sino-Western cultural exchange during the late Qing and early Republic of China important works, with high literature value. Standing on the comparative position between China and the West, this book sets forth from the humanistic theory of Confucianism and puts forward more profound criticisms and opinions on the morality, the relations between the five nations and the Confucianists, education, and measures to strengthen the country and enrich the people. Although some of these criticisms and opinions can not help but extreme, but still have a higher reference value of the history of Confucianism thought, but also reflects the thought and participation of the missionaries during the 1898 Movement, an important historical document on the political, ideological change at the end of the Republic of China .
