The article examines the unearthed documents with bamboo slips as the carrier and the handed down documents with paper as the carrier in the Pre-Qin, Han Dynasties, Wei and Jin Dynasties and compares the number of polysyllabic words among them. It is found that the proportion of polysyllabic words in the two categories of documents in the same period is roughly the same, Different writing carriers did not affect the polysyllabic words in the literal recording language, and the substantial increase of polysyllabic words in the Eastern Han Dynasty had nothing to do with the universal use of paper.
