Fibroblast activation protein α (FAPα) is a transmembrane serine protease that is highly expressed on Tumor-associated fibroblasts (TAF) in 90% of epithelial tumors. FAPα plays a very important role in promoting malignant progression of epithelial tumors. In recent years, FAPα has been shown to play an immunosuppressive role in the tumor microenvironment. Studying the role of FAPα in tumor immunosuppression has become a new focus of cancer research. In this review, we focus on the factors that cause tumor immunosuppression, the research progress of FAPα and tumor immunosuppression and the role of FAPα in tumor progression.
