公元1115年,完颜阿骨打率女真人建立大金帝国,启动了“灭辽克宋”的历史进程。金室建国初期,不少汉族文人由于不同的原因被滞留金国,蔡松年也是其中之一。但他一生仕途通达,位极人臣,故国之念和沦落之悲不及其他的“南冠”诗人,作品当中流露出来的情感隐含在强烈的矛盾和归隐愿望之中,所作《念奴娇·离骚痛饮》把这种矛盾与感慨表达得淋漓尽致,堪称个人作品中的上品佳作。
