Of all social sciences, history is the most basic discipline. Not only must state leaders have a keen sense of history, that is, scholars must have a sense of history if they want to make their own contribution to the development of their profession and mankind. They must understand history and especially world history. Some Western powers, even intelligence chiefs, are world historians with profound academic attainments, so the leaders of these countries often have far-reaching perspectives in making strategic decisions.
