雄崖古城是山东省内惟一留存,有着600多年历史的海防古城。公元1402年,为抵御倭寇的入侵,明朝右丞相徐达指挥佥事廉高在即墨丰城镇修建军事要塞,取名雄崖所,由城东白马岛上的雄伟断崖而得名。老城原是正方形,周长2公里,占地375亩,隶属鳌山卫,该所设有五大军户,原籍大部分属河南开封、安徽亳县、山东徐州(旧时称)等。雄崖城与海阳、莱阳隔海相望,素有“鸡鸣三县闻、浪拍三邑惊”之称,三县鼎力邻守联防,是历代海防兵家必争之地。
The ancient city of Xiong Ya is the only surviving city in Shandong Province with a history of more than 600 years.
