《红佛记》是明人张凤翼根据唐人张说《虬髯客传》传奇及孟晵《本事诗》中乐昌公主破镜重圆的两个故事糅合而成,以李靖与红佛女相爱而私奔的故事情节贯穿其间。张凤翼(1527-1613),明代江苏长洲人,字伯起,号灵虚,著名的文学家、词益家兼出版家。书画皆能, 工行楷,善倚声,尝著数种传奇流行,《红佛记》即为其一,名重当时。曾中过举人,与梁伯龙友善,是一位戏曲音乐改革大家,他在把昆腔搬上舞台的改革事业中起到了重要作用。徐复祚《曲论》中说他“善度曲, 自晨至夕,口鸣下已,吴中旧曲师魏良辅,伯起出而一变之,至今宗焉。”《红佛记》其中的“仗策渡江”“侠女私奔”两折,旧时昆曲尚能演出,但整部剧本头绪比较纷繁。和张凤翼其他的剧本作品一样,在昆腔音乐上的成就和影响远远超过其在文学
