MRI or other imaging facilities to detect cerebral infarction but not to clinical symptoms is called asymptomatic or occult cerebral infarction (SCI) and is in line with category III of the International Association of Neurological and Stroke Cerebrovascular Diseases. However, whether asymptomatic cerebral infarction is indeed asymptomatic is not yet determined. Although these patients found no neurological symptoms of locating sites, but the subjective or psychiatric symptoms associated with infarction should be considered. The authors used MRI to examine the incidence of SCI in patients with major depression in pre-senile and senile conditions.
