本文在对殷墟出土磬的搜集、统计和分析基础上,结合殷墟出土的其它乐器和晚商前后时期磬的发展情况,对其文化分期、所属墓葬或墓葬群、类型划分、测音情况及音乐性能等方面进行分析和研究,认为:殷墟出土磬的制作工艺和殷墟的文化分期不成正比,编磬最晚在殷墟二期已经出现,对殷墟出土磬的更深入的文化分期研究尚不具备条件;殷墟磬是属于贵族阶层使用的礼乐器;殷墟磬可以分成三种类型;殷墟出土磬的测音情况说明殷人较多使用大小三度音程,具备固定音高的观念,十二律基本齐备,殷墟磬在当时可能具有节奏性乐器与旋律性乐器两种功用。
