During Easter 1900, a group of Greek sponges returned to the homeland of Koh Samui, near Rhode Island, from traditional fishing grounds off the North African coast, and were suddenly attacked by storms. They were blown off the course by the wind and eventually sheltered at Anchisira, an uninhabited island next to Crete. They wanted to get some sponges, but they were surprised to find the remains of a large ship. They reported the findings to the authorities and returned to Antiquityira in November with several archaeological consultants. The work of clearing the sunken ship lasted until September 1901. From the excavated items, they found some bronze fragments inscribed with Greek inscriptions. Shortly after, found some fragments. At this point, a complete set of gear finally appeared in front of people, some of which also with text gear.
