English and American poetry present a variety of sensory beauty such as visual sense, auditory sense, sense of smell, and kinesthetic sense, with obvious modalities, thus making it possible to analyze the multimodal discourse of aesthetic criticism in English and American poetry. By constructing the framework of multimodal analysis of English and American poetry, the article takes “To Helen” by Edgar Allan Poe as an example. From the context of poetry, the context of content and expression, , The meaning and function of the poetic modal, the multimodal features both inside and outside of the poetic text, and the modal relation of poetry. The multimodal discourse analysis method of poetry is an exploratory exploration of the study of British and American poetry from the perspective of interdisciplinarity. It is hoped that this research paradigm can contribute to the criticism of English and American poetry.
