Pulmonary alveolar proteinosis (PAP) is a rare diffuse lung disease,characterized by accumulation of surfactant-associated phosphor lipoproteinaceous material in the alvoli.Finding the periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)positive substance in the alveolar lavage can help to make the diagnosis.
