楊談大队位于曲沃县东北部塔儿山山脚下,地势北高南低,发育着深达二、三十米的四大冲沟。过去十年九旱,水土流失严重,致使沟壑縱生,形成典型的丘陵旱坡地。現有耕地一万五千亩,土壤主要是二壚土、綿土、石渣黃土。前放前,楊談土地瘠薄、水肥奇缺,井深达20~40丈,飲水困难,更无法浇灌。一万五千亩耕地竟分布在五千多块地里,土地支离破碎,加之石渣地多,酸枣、杂草丛生。
