Donna: …and so I’m wondering if you wouldn’t mind answering a few questions?
  Student 1: Sure.
  Student 2: Of course.
Donna: Alright, great. ①Let me just cut to the chase: would you vote for Naomi Bartlett?
Student 2: Actually, yeah, I would. I’m part of the swimming club and Naomi’s backed the sports’ department through thick and thin.
Student 1: Yeah, but are sports really something that’s close to her heart, or ②is she just trying to curry favour?
Donna: Would you mind expanding on that?
Student 1: Well she’s a science major and to be honest, ③I don’t think she gives two hoots about sports.
Student 2: I think you’re wrong about that. She may not have a 1)vested interest, but she’s been seriously 2)gung ho on lots of issues that don’t personally affect her.
Donna: Could you 3)elaborate for me?
Student 2: Sure. She’s championed the co-ed dorm movement even though she lives in an all-girl 4)sorority; she’s a science major, but I’ve seen her at numerous events to raise funds for the English department; she even helped to get vegetarian options in the cafeteria and she’s the biggest 5)carnivore I’ve ever seen.
Student 1: ④But she’s such a fence sitter on the important issues!
Donna: Can you explain what you mean?
Student 1: Tuition fees are becoming ridiculous. They’ve risen 250% in six years. Naomi Bartlett rarely ever addresses this issue, and when she does, it’s all talk. She doesn’t focus on the changes that would help students on an everyday basis.
Donna: Well what kind of changes do you feel she should be focusing on?
Student 1: Simple support programs like cooking classes or study-habit training courses.
Student 2: Actually, ⑤he may be an armchair critic, but I really have to agree here. Naomi’s equality protests are great, and her 6)fundraisers have done a lot of good, but none of that is actually helping to improve the daily life of the majority of students.
Donna: Well guys, you’ve been more than helpful. Thanks for your input.
  Student 2: No problem.
Student 1: Hopefully we see some changes.
  Donna: I hope so, too.
