The horse stretched his neck and tried hard to move forward, but could not. Because it has ten legs, it is far more disturbing than a manageable number of legs. It had to stand on a piece of empty ground, abrupt and decadent. This is the scene that Zhu Cunwei painted in the 2010 oil on canvas. In the picture, the ten legs of the horse create a strangely distorted visual appearance. This paradox of contradiction appears abundantly in Zhu Cunwei’s paintings. Peony animals open, floating goldfish in the sky, the case on the tip of the skull with a sharp tip on the top of the gyro, these strange images, exquisitely presented in Chinese-style, is a different ugly ukiyo-e Ukiyoe.
