The accelerated thermal cycling devices ATC-1 and ATC-2 of the European Center for Space Research and Technology (ESTEC) are designed for structural testing of light-weight solar modules or other spacecraft. Compared with the near-Earth orbit, Its acceleration factor reaches 50. This article describes its working principle, critical design features and operating experience, and compares the characteristics and economics of this test method with the conventional vacuum thermal cycle.
