The role of anesthetics and disappearance is closely related to the degree of drug and plasma protein binding, which determines the amount of drug available to the tissue. Blood pH, age, other drugs and metabolites can affect the anesthetic and protein binding. Hypoproteinemia is clinically associated with liver or kidney disease and the latter is also involved in the excretion of anesthetics.
