2003年11月间,唐海县一带鲤精养池鱼类大量死亡,给养殖户冬季鱼类越冬造成了极大的损失。经现场检查和诊断,确定为小三毛金藻中毒症。小三毛金藻的危害最初是1974年在以色列被发现,在我国则是由何志辉教授70年代在大连发现的,以后在我国北部陆续有报道,其主要发生在半咸水地区。近年来随着气候的变化,许多地区的水质朝着半咸水发展,以至于全国各地均有关于小三毛金藻中毒症的大量报道。此次唐海县大面积发生小三毛金藻中毒症是比较罕见的。
