During the war of resistance against Japan, in order to realize the strategic weakening of the Japanese army and encourage the morale of the Chinese people in the war of resistance against Japan, the United States formulated a far-reaching “Matt Horn” plan. The Sichuan people built a large number of military airports in Chengdu and its surrounding areas to expand the use of a large number of military airports mainly for the US Army 20th Air Force and the 14th Air Force Huaxi Assault Detachment in charge of defending missions to make Chengdu the most influential US Army Air Corps during the Anti- One of the important bases. Nearly a year after its inception in Chengdu, the 20th Air Force super-air fortress B-29 heavy bomber has conducted more than 20 strategic bombardments against Japan’s own territory and its affiliated ruled areas and has achieved brilliant success. Under the guidance of “offensive defensive” thinking, the airport defense and bomber escort tasks were accomplished splendidly. In conjunction with the Chinese ground forces, they carried out a powerful air strick against the Japanese invaders. Although the residency of the U.S. aviation corps caused the Japanese troops to restart and intensify the bombing of the Chengdu area, causing some trouble to people’s production and livelihood, the people of Chengdu still unselfishly provided help to the U.S. forces stationed in the United States. Through the repair of the airport, the building of hostels, the organization of condolences and the rescue of crashed pilots, the people of Chengdu and the U.S. forces stationed in Japan have formed profound fighting friendships and made tremendous contributions to the victory of the Anti-Japanese War in their daily equality and harmonious co-existence.
