Recently, I saw two pieces of information: A Waxi Metropolis Daily on April 22, saying that in 2002, per capita GDP of Chengdu was already 1,000 U.S. dollars. The city has 1,030,000 cars, 88% of which are private cars. Also said that from 2000 to 2001 the main price of private car to buy 50,000 yuan in 2002 rose to 5 to 80,000 yuan in 2003 and raised to 100,000 yuan. On the other hand, at the China Automotive News on May 13, Wang Rongxuan, secretary of the Chengdu Municipal Party Committee, and mayor Li Chuncheng publicly declared that the city likes the people’s favorite mini-cars in the same way as other cars in terms of licensing and driving.
