天安门广场:中国的大视野

广场是城市文明的核心,几乎每一座城市都拥有自己的广场,大小不等,与城市规模相对应——就像拥有自己的权威。在不同的广场上漫步,我总是产生同样的疑问:是城市建立之后特意开辟了广场——作为公众聚会的法定场所,抑或,围绕着一块在当地渐具威信的广场才建立起庞大的城市?为突出广场先天具备的对人类精神的凝聚力,我个人倾向于赞同后者。至少,一座城市发展的速度与效益跟它广场上的人群与事件息息相关。广场上最原始的活动应该是贸易:方圆数十里的人群纷纷赶赴这古老 The square is at the heart of urban civilization, with almost every city holding its own square of different sizes, corresponding to the size of the city - just as it has its own authority.
