Plus Medical Volume 16, No. 13 (1980) Washington, DC, USA Although a long-established belief that isoniazid-treated tuberculosis reduces vitamin B_6 (pyridoxine), a study by the New Jersey Medical College Affiliated Hospital negates This question. In a report in the Canadian and American Thoracic Society, Dr. Patricia Costanzo pointed out that isoniazid is one of the major drugs used to treat and prevent tuberculosis. However, since the advent of isoniazid in 1951, it has been considered as a cause of neuropathy associated with lack of pyridoxine and reports of a small number of patients with pellagra caused by isoniazid. Early studies have shown that the incidence of neuropathy is directly related to the dose and duration of treatment. But early analysis
