Over 10 million tons of fruit are produced each year in Italy, leading the world in terms of fruit output or the level of development of science and technology in this field. Italian citrus, apples and peaches make up the largest share - 26%, 20% and 13% of total fruit production, respectively. Specialized orchard area of 1.659 million hectares, of which 167,000 hectares of citrus, Pingguo 176,000 hectares, other trees accounted for 1.136 million hectares.
