2018 Chinese garment:To face new future and establish new advantages

  Successfully convened the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China in 2017 was quite inspiring, and China’s clothing industry enjoyed“seeking improvement in stability with quality and efficiency taking a lead” which woke confidence. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China gave key words like structural reform at supply side, modern economic system, entity economy, middle and high-end consumption, modern supply chain … which sent positive signals to China’s clothing industry. New era will certainly have new development. China’s clothing industry has made preparations to face the new future and establish new advantages in 2018.
  View of figures- Seeking improvement in stability with quality and efficiency taking a lead
  According to data from National Bureau of Statistics, enterprises of above designated sizes in clothing industry realized cumulative RMB 2,060.524 billion main business income during January - November in 2017 with 1.87% year-on-year growth rate; gross profit was RMB 117.531 billion with 6.02% year-on-year growth rate; profit rate of sales was 5.70% which increased by 0.22 percentage point compared with the same period in 2016; gross profit rate of sales was 13.95% which increased by 0.30 percentage point compared with the same period in 2016; proportion of three expenses (financial costs, operating expenses and management fees) was 8.03% which increased by 0.13 percentage point compared with the same period in 2016.
  During January - November in 2017, total retail sales of consumer goods reached RMB 33,152.8 billion with 10.3% year-on-year growth rate, where cumulative retail sales of clothing commodities in above-norm units was RMB 935.8 billion with 7.6% year-on-year growth rate. In addition, China’s clothing industry actually completed investment amount of RMB 449.519 billion with 4.81% year-on-year growth rate.
  From operating status of the industry in 2017,“high-quality” development was becoming an obvious tendency without any doubt. As a fundamental consumption-type industry, China’s clothing industry has kept steady tendency on the whole over the years.“Seeking improvement in stability with quality and efficiency taking the lead” is becoming especially obvious. Profit increase in clothing industry had been higher than growth of main business income since 2017. Average profit rate of enterprises of above designated sizes within the industry also somewhat increased compared with the same period of the previous year.   Over the past one year, faced by brand-new developmental environment, industrial transformation and upgrading were continuously accelerated with increasingly improved operating quality within the industry. China’s clothing industry presented a new high-spirited state.
  Development focus of textile and clothing industry will be highlighted by consumption upgrading and demand change in 2018. The past demand for “quantity” has been transformed into demand for “quality”as well as individualized, diversified and differential demands. China’s textile and clothing industry masters new changes in consumption upgrading, which is an important aspect of promoting structural reform at supply side and plays a significant role in the industrial transformation towards high-quality development.
  View of brands— Precise localization and simultaneous development of quantity and quality
  In terms of clothing brand, core keywords in 2018 may become “simultaneous development of quantity and quality”. In addition, numerous people occupied in clothing industry express that market segmentation will be continued in 2018. Consumers are experiencing updating, corresponding to consumption diversification. The past situation in which one brand was adaptable to all channels and all shopping malls doesn’t exist any longer without precise localization. Selecting matching channel and project is the priority among priorities of clothing brands.
  Following the market is the invariable direction of clothing brands no matter for continuous expansion or prudent conservation of achievements. In addition, for channel, “quality” improvement includes two aspects: one is to strike off shops with poor performances and the second is to conduct image upgrading of terminal shops. It’s expressed that steps should be faster under good market; but others consider that steps should be slower and scale effect should be transformed into operating quality. No matter steps are slow or fast, it’s commonly believed by clothing brands that: the present era is a good era with more and more mature markets, channels and brands, which are also more and more professional. An important feature is that everybody learns how to “localize”. Later-stage input will be effective only with precise localization.

  — Technology driving and consumption upgrading
  The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that China’s economy had been transformed from high-speed growth stage into high-quality development stage. China’s economy is in steady adjustment stage and development stage in which development mode is being transformed, economic structure optimized and motive force of growth transformed. Macro economy provides background and support for high-quality development of this industry; in addition, garment industry is a completely market-oriented industry, its inherent property is rapid response to market change, and it has kept innovative development tendency; meanwhile, scientific and technological progress has also provided important function for the industry in aspects of rapid response, flexible manufacturing, industrial coordination, etc. The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China gave priority to cultural confidence over great rejuvenation. It highlighted significance and function of culture from the height of national prosperity.   In the new era, rise of the great powers, consumption upgrading and explosion of intelligent technology not only bring about new demands but also generate new challenges, containing new technology and new contributing force.   — Technological innovation and cultural boosting
  Technology and culture will be two major sharp swords for next development of China’s garment industry.
  The 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China put forward “construct modernized economic system” for the first time. While boosting entity economy and realizing great-leap-forward development, the government energetically promotes deep integration of technological innovation and entity economy so that digital economy becomes motive force of connotative development of entity economy. This specific policy guidance not only greatly boosts confidence in development of garment industry but also indicates clear direction for the next technological change within the industry. As an industry with extremely strong cultural property, culture is an important content for clothing-driven construction of great power and also an important constituent part of national cultural construction. Therefore, faced with new competition rules, China should center on Chinese cultural value to express China’s attitude and proposition towards vogue culture, gradually construct unique oriental fashion culture system, forge Chinese cultural genes of garment brands and lay the cultural foundation for development of garment brands. In this way, right of speech in market can be obtained so as to create Chinese brands and step towards the world.
  2018 is a connecting year between the preceding and the following for “the 13th Five-Year Program”and a key year for construction of great power. The curtain for construction of a great power has been opened; steps of consumption upgrading are being ac- internet, big data and artificial intelligence with textile and clothing industry, continuous exploration has realized intelligent upgrading at product level and production & manufacturing level. Technological route of the industry will move towards intelligence of industrial links, from consumption perception to flexible production so as to realize balance between infinite demand and effective resources, namely intelligence of industrial chain. celerated; new technology welcomes explosion nodes, and lifestyle and consumption mode are experiencing enormous changes. Standing on the starting point of a new year, textile-driven construction of great power will enter an important force-exerting stage, and efforts should be made to construction of soft power within the industry. Technology and culture should be caught simultaneously. Development momentum will be infused by technological innovation into the industry. Cultural creativity will be used to improve value creativity. Responsibility development will be used to construct a respected and sustainable industrial development concept and value outlook so as to create new industrial civilization and commercial civilization.
  In the new era, China’s garment industry has determined the new orientations — innovation-driven scientific and technological industry, culture-guided fashion industry and responsibility-oriented green industry. Meanwhile, based on the new orientations, the industry is making efforts to develop science and technology and brands as well as to realize sustainable development and strengthen the country through talents. For enterprises, they are located in an internet era but commercial nature remains unchanged. Future enterprise development core is to timely master change of consumption demand and provide desired products and services consumers need at appropriate time, in appropriate place and by appropriate means. This is the essence of industrial existence and the core of brand development.
