翻译是一种跨文化交际活动。姓名作为一个文化元素,在不同的文化中有不同的特点,因此其翻译方法也各有不同。本文从姓名的命名原则谈起,立足于探究中英姓名所蕴含的不同文化内涵,试图介绍中西方文化背景下姓名的翻译,并探讨其翻译方法有音译、意译、音意结合译法以及补译。同时指出,我们必须认识到任何翻译策略都不可能是绝对的,译者应在理解不同文化的基础上,根据不同的具体情况,用更加恰当的翻译方法进行适应性转换。
