1927年6月6日,“中国西北科学考察团”成员黄文弼发现了一座古城废墟,当地人称之为敖伦苏木,意为众庙之城。城址呈长方形,东西长约1000米,南北宽约600米。城墙由土坯建成,高约5米。黄文弼记述:“入城循视一周,残瓦片堆积如山者十余座,散瓦石遍地皆是,乃建筑房屋遗址也。余在东堆下见有断石碑数块,审视乃王傅德风堂碑记。碑文不全,字迹模糊,乃叙述元代一王之世系及功业。”黄文弼的发现,引起了中外考古界的重视,经数十年的考古
On June 6, 1927, Huang Wenbi, a member of the Northwest Scientific Research Delegation of China, discovered the ruins of an ancient city, which locals call Ao Lun Hemu, meaning the city of temples. The city is rectangular, about 1,000 meters east-west, north-south width of 600 meters. Built from adobe city walls, about 5 meters high.
