The battery-powered bi-directional current sensor circuit is shown in FIG. The op amp used in this circuit is the LT1498, a 10MHz, 6V / μs precision C-load op amp from Linear Technology. Two outputs are given in circuit 1: one is proportional to the charge current and the other is proportional to the discharge current. During charging, op amp A1 forces the voltage across R_A equal to (I_L) (R_ (SENSE)). This voltage is then amplified and the charge output is R_B / R_A times.
