竞技体育实行的是学校体育、体育传统项目学校、业余体校等相对独立封闭的体制,与普通教育严重分离,其弊端更是日渐凸显:选拔运动员的路子越来越窄、训练与文化教学的脱节、运动员就业难等等。实际上,竞技体育与文化学习的矛盾曾在很长一段时期困扰着大部分体育特长生:抓住了竞技水平提高的最佳生长期,却错失了文化知识学习的最佳年龄段。为了避免“鱼与熊掌不可兼得”
