The current status of important directions in the analysis of organic compounds can be summarized as follows: Many organic compounds can be identified based on their physical properties such as melting point or boiling point, refractive index, crystalline shape and the like. Extremely pure material is needed for this purpose, often in considerable quantities. Another way of identifying organic compounds is to conduct a qualitative reaction. However, the course of many of the reactions used and the selectivity of their effects have not generally been well studied, especially in the more intensive conditions, such as in concentrated sulfuric acid. This reduces the reliability and persuasion of the results obtained.
