英石,是中国四大名石之一,由于产于英德市,故称英石。英石生长于石灰岩石山,远古时期,山上有很多自然崩落的石块,有的散落在地面,经受阳光曝晒和风吹雨淋;有的遭受了灭顶之灾,被深埋于地下。在千万年的地壳运动中,它们不断地碰撞、融合、变化,最终形成了玲珑剔透、色彩鲜明、充满动感的英石。在英德市区东北二十里,有一座山名叫英山,高七十余丈,是一座石灰岩质石山,山上遍布着千姿百态的英石,远远望去,犹如石花遍开。北宋时期,大文豪苏东坡对英石珍爱有加。他把英石摆在庭院里、案几上等随处可见的地方,细心地观赏揣摩,
