Objective To investigate the prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii infection in patients with ocular diseases and healthy subjects and to explore whether ocular diseases are related to Toxoplasma infection. Methods Serum Toxoplasma gondii IgM antibodies were detected in 160 patients with ophthalmopathy and 160 healthy individuals by ELISA. Toxoplasma gondii DNA was detected by PCR. Results 160 cases of ophthalmic patients, 20 cases of IgM antibody positive, the positive rate was 12.50%; healthy control 160 cases, 9 cases were positive, the positive rate was 5.63%, the difference was statistically significant (χ2 = 4.588, P <0.05). Fifty cases of IgM positive in ophthalmopathy group were positive in 15 cases, the positive rate was 18.75%. The positive rate of IgM in 80 cases of uveitis was 6.25% (χ2 = 5.714, P < 0.05). In the healthy control group, 80 students were positive for IgM in 3 cases, and the positive rate was 3.75%. Six of 80 workers were positive, the positive rate was 7.50%. There was no significant difference between the two groups (χ2 = 1.060, P> 0.05). Tox-PCR detection of 20 cases of IgM-positive patients with eye disease were positive, 9 cases of IgM-positive control group were PCR-positive in 8 cases, the difference was statistically significant (χ2 = 3.079, P <0.01). Conclusion The prevalence of Toxoplasma gondii in patients with ocular diseases is higher than that in healthy people. The infection rate of Toxoplasma gondii in patients with ocular diseases is higher than that in patients with uveitis. So think that some eye diseases and toxoplasmosis related.
