陆生类型的仙人掌类植物种类繁多,原产地分布广。它们外形多变,体积相差大,刺毛的长短和色彩变化更多,因而对光照的要求各不相同。要使它们生长良好,充分体现种类特征,关键之一就是要在栽培中控制好光照。高大的掌状和柱状种类大多要求强光,温室顶面玻璃最好不加遮荫。但在很多地区不加遮荫常使室温过高,因此必须加强通风降温。光线的强弱有时会造成这些种类外形上的变化。如仙人镜在强光下茎节大而呈圆形,表皮近蓝色被白粉,而在较弱的光线下茎节小呈椭圆形,表皮绿色,白粉不明显。龙神柱光线充足时挺直粗壮呈蓝色,光线不足则弯曲,有时粗细不一。
